Trip to Cherbourg in the framework of the
excavations on the wreck of the Alabama. Four CHAB members accompany
the French divers on the site of the wreck of the Confederate raider
and examine the artifacts recovered.
Invited by History Channel television, the CHAB
travels to Cherbourg for a filmed interview of S. Noirsain in the
framework of the filming of a documentary on the CSS "Alabama".
At the prestigious Naval Academy in Paris, S.
Noirsain and G. Hawkins receive a prize for their book "The
European fleet of the Southern Confederacy" published in
French by the CHAB
in 2000.
Viviane and Hubert Leroy visit Geneva's
town hall and the room where, from 1871 to 1872, the first international
arbitrage
tribunal settled the dispute between the United States and Great
Britain over the Alabama Claims.
Visit of the Maritime Museum of Rotterdam
and of the "Buffel", an ironclad of the same class as
the CSS "Stonewall" built in France for the Confederacy.
Personally invited by the Mayor and
authorities of Cherbourg, the CHAB took part in the official ceremony declaring Cherbourg official site of the
American Civil War. Private visit of the "Cit้ de la Mer" maritime
museum and of the decommissioned nuclear submarine "Le Redoutable".
The Free Press of Kinston (North Carolina)
comments on an article published in the CHAB News, about the
Confederate deserters who were hanged in Kingston by General Pickett
in 1864.
